To cap off my royal birthday, what could be more appropriate than writing a Women's Lib: Boomer Style essay in the Huffington Post?
For those too lazy to be bothered with the read (can you say, "projection"?), go ahead, listen to a podcast of the essay, instead. (It's number 5, although truth be told, number 6, Mobile Martinis is my favortie, natch.)

Love it! I'm going to work in my pajamas tomorrow, and I think you should write me a note, in case anyone asks about it. Or puts me in an asylum.

hey..I'm not too lazy although I AM in my pajamas...and I say...damn right! I'm just on the other side of 50 and I enjoy every day of it. But I will say that although I'm fine with not getting into skinny jeans and don't give a rodent's hiney about the lines around my eyes, I do wish that hot flashes did not celebrate all my new found emotional freedom...I know I could think of them as kind of emotional fireworks...but no...I could do without them...other than that...it's a great time to be alive...consider the alterntive!

Love it, Doreen! Men definitely have less to be liberated from. Let them spend years shaving a quarter of their bodies, painting their faces on, fussing with the hair, etc, every day, just to become what society considers presentable to walk out the door, and then see how good it feels to stop.

On further reflection I must say that I think we are both lucky to be in (or near) our 50s married to supportive, interesting, and tolerant men. Although I think I would still say "I am who I am, get used to it"...sit certainly makes it easier married to Jerry...who loves who I am.

Patti - Easy for you to say - you're naturally gorgeous and thin from all that running. (Although to me, "natural" and "running" hardly go together.)
Robin - Happy to write you a note on committment papers, anytime.
Polly - oh, yeah.
Annette - I'm not doing the menopause thing, yet, but I can't wait (other than the hot flashes). At my age, I'm just sick and tired of bleeding every 28 days. Enough, already.

with the exception of the hot flashes (which haven't been that bad for me) I'm ecstatic with having gone 7 months now without having to buy one single box of tampons...wooohooo! Talk about liberation! You are so right...enough is enough.

I'll let Tim know he has something to look forward to. He's the one who does the shopping and he'll be thrilled he won't have to buy tampons anymore!

Absolutely loved that article, Doreen! (But I absolutely don't believe you weren't always a head-turner! Me, on the other hand....)
You are so right about the freedom that comes with relaxing about all this stuff. I'm even loving my long greying hair! Unfortunately, you are also right about the lure of the nightly glass or two--or so--of wine. I found I had to get strict about limiting myself to just one.
